I was born and raised in Havre de Grace, Maryland but have lived in San Marcos, California (near San Diego) for almost 20 years now.
I saw my first akita in 1972, and right away knew that when I got a dog of my own, it would be an akita. Well, it took two decades before the time was right to have a dog, but here we are with two akitas.
Devo is 3 and Kira is 2. We also have 5 cats, two big aquariums, and a goldfish pond. Kinda crowded around here, the house is very small! My husband has two grown children, and now I have a gratuitous grandchild...but my real children all have four legs.
I used to be a distance runner and then a competitive bodybuilder, but now I just train at a moderate level in order to spend more quality time with the dogs.
My job right now is managing two hospital transfusion services; my husband retired after 20 years in the navy, he is currently a security guard, massage therapist, and is taking classes to become an O.R. tech.

when there is time to compose something more organized!

I live on 8 acres in Scio, Oregon, this is a sleepy little town about 24 miles SE of Salem, the capital of Oregon. It is a small farming community where everybody knows everybody and everybody watches out for each other. We moved here from Salem in 1996 and will never go back to the city (if at all possible):} I have been involved in Akitas for 3.5 years now, and almost have my first Champion. I are very involved in our local all-breed kennel club, and I am very involved in showing my dogs. I have met some wonderful people in the dog world and look forward to meeting many many more.

It's a long way to Tipperary when you live in Québec City; mostly a French Speaking city, it is not always easy to read
along all your messages!!!!

I see that many of you have more than one AKITA; We also plan to have one more next year. We do not plan to do breeding
and we only want akitas for the pleasure these dogs give us.

In the house, we are 3 adults, one teen, our beloved female Akita Tsuki and a new member, Benji, a male Lhasa Apso for the
queen of the house, Ursula!!!!

They (Tsuki and Benji) go along very well; at first, we were not sure of this but now all is fine.

They have the same diet (in larger quantity for Tsuki!!!!) made 50/50 of vegetables-beef-poultry and Sensible Choice Food. To that,
we also give them vitamins and natural herbs.

We live in the center of the city and they have the patio(20x20) for them and the first level of the house is also theirs. They live mainly
inside but go outside when they ask. Tsuki is a couch potato except around midnight where she goes totally crazy!!!

They get two walks a day, one in the morning and one around eleven at night (at the moment Tsuki become crazy!!!)

What I have learn here with all has been good for us, but we found that we are not writing very much with all of you. We will try to do
better.

I became obsessed with Akitas after reading the story of Hachiko. I purchased my Akitas from a backyard breeder being unaware at the time. Both of my dogs have had numerous health problems but luckily they are doing okay. Again I am grateful that they have wonderful temperaments and just love everyone!
When I first obtained my Akitas, no one I knew even knew about the breed so I used the internet to seek out cyber friends that share my passion for the breed.
A few years ago I became involved in Akita rescue and now devote a great deal of my free time to this effort.

I got my first akita about 9 years ago after reading about them in a book. I have been showing akitas for approximately 4 years and enjoy the bond that showing and working in obedience gives you with the dog. I am the Public Education Coordinator for both the Tyler Texas Kennel Club and the Tyler Obedience Training Club. I have done workshops at local Grade Schools and take along my female akita Tushka for the kids to learn about proper dog etiquette.

Just wanted to say that our involvement in Akitas has led us down a path that was life-changing and I wouldn't change any of it for anything. The friends we have made, the places we have visited and most importantly, the life that we have shared with our Akitas has gone way beyond where I could have ever anticipated it would. The addition of the internet and it's capabilities as seen in the e-mail lists only adds to the experience.
